Tuberculosis (TB) is an infection usually affects lung as the primary site however can potentially affect any organ in human body including skin. The causative bacteria is named as Mycobacterium Tuberculosis. Main symptoms of TB of lungs are chronic cough, fever, night sweats, weight loss and some other unspecific symptoms.

 

Diagnosis & Treatment:

As TB is a very serious infection and has a huge impact on publicn health due to high transmission rate, if you are diagnosed with this disease you will be reported to department of health and may stay in isolation for a period of time to avoid infecting others. Treatment is at least 6 months combination of multiple antibiotics. You other family members may need to receive preventetive treatment depends on the grade of exposure and contact with you as well as thier skin or blood test.

 

Diagnosis of TB is usually triggered by clinical suspicion and confirmed by special laboratory tests. Unfortunately there is no 100% sensitive of specific tests for diagnosis of tuberculosis.

 

Prevention:

As TB spreads person to person through the air, contact percaution may prevent the disease in contact with a person who is infected. BCG vaccine may prevent certain type of the disease but nor completely neither permanently.
