Gastroenteritis is an infection of the digestive system usually made by a virus and occasionally by a bacteria causing vomiting and diarrhea.

Diagnosis & Treatment:

Gastroenteritis is usually a self-limiting disease needs no investigation or treatment. Rehydration and maintaining oral intake is the main corner stone of management. However, in some cases such as typhoid fever or rotavoirus infection blood tests, urine test or stool sample should be performed for diagnosis and treatment, infection control and also public health benefit.

Transmission:

The mode of transmission is touching an infected material including surface.

Prevention:

Some of severe infections such as Rotavirus or Typhoid diseases could be partially prevented by vaccine however hand hygiene still has the most important role.
